Due to go active in January 2012, the Bradford Business Directory will be aimed at small businesses, requiring a little more than a mention and an address in some non-descript business listing site.
Dedicated to all businesses within the Bradford Metropolitan postcode, this page will list you along with other companies, picturing your business, along with a write-up of what you have to offer. The Bradford Business Directory will form a major part of the BradfordEye website, showcasing small businesses and their services. This can then be used as a vehicle for promotion of your company.
As you can see from the various galleries on the BradfordEye website, the pictures were taken over the past 44 years showing Bradford and surrounding area. I started taking pictures in 1967, and recently I've found other photographers who are interested in putting their pictures on the site, hence "Bradford Photographer's Gallery" and "In and Around the Bradford Postcode", both to be found in Gallery 3, top of the page.
I realize that the media is hyping up the downturn in the economy, with talk of this being the worst recession ever etc, but if Bradford people had listened to that 30 years ago we would have packed up and gone elsewhere! I think the problem for the small business at this stage, is how do I get my company out there, how do I direct my customers and show them what I offer, without spending a large amount of time running a a website and impacting the company's yearly advertising budget? Traditionally, a big expense for any company, whether it be large or small!
BradfordEye's solution is to offer one price (more than reasonable), paid monthly or if preferred by cheque for a whole year, and No Contract! Yes I mean No Contract! Why? Well, I don't think a small business needs one!
For that, we'll take pictures inside and outside of your premises, staff included, a write-up as to what you have to offer along with any price lists you want listed. The business could be - hairdresser, restaurant etc.
I don't regard what Bradfordeye does, as "just advertising your business", I think of it more as a profiling of your business. This is not to compete with local newspaper advertising as I don't think you can improve on that. However, it does offer a 52 week, 365 day presence on a dedicated Bradford website. I like to think of the site as being as being like a village, a Bradford-Village, (after all we now know that BIG IS NOT ALWAYS BEST, ask the banks!) with local businesses coming under one roof and all the interaction that entails. Surely that has to be better than in isolation on a business directory. I know this because I have worked not only for large and impersonal corporations but also small businesses, as you will see if you look on some of the galleries, and I know which I prefer!
We all know that Bradford has gone through some bad times these past years, but we can't rewind that tape and the need for blame has to stop if the the city is to move forward!
