Provident (PFG) Financial Head Office (former) Sunbridge Road
A collaboration between BradfordEye and David Glass has resulted in two new galleries for for Gallery 3. The pictures were taken from the top of the former Provident Financial Group (PFG), former Head Office situated on Sunbridge Rd. Provident afforded us the unique opportunity to take pictures from the top of the building, which both myself and David seized with both hands, knowing that if and when the building is sold that opportunity may never come again. So it's a big thank you to Richard Saul (Head of Facilities) and Karen Sutcliffe (Building Migration Manager), thanks for the superb cooperation you gave us, it was much appreciated and allowed us to get on and concentrate on the job in hand. Being a Bradford dedicated website, it's especially gratifying when a big company looks favourably on a small website concern and gives it support. Provident originates from Bradford, and I'm sure there were many people who were concerned when they announced the Head Office move, and that move would be a move away from Bradford. Provident dispelled any possibility of that however, in the early days of the announcement. With all of Bradford's problems these past few years, it was certainly good news of their staying, and ranked right up there with Marks and Spencer's new build warehouse situated at the start of the M606. Thanks once again Provident, for allowing both David and I to see this project through! Click the link to learn a little of the history, of this Bradford company! Provident History
November the 17th and 18th were the two days we allocated. The equipment used was a Nikon D80 with lenses as follows - Nikkor 18mm 200mm VED f3.5-5.6 zoom - Sigma 10 20mm f4.5-5.6 zoom - Tamron BBAR 200mm 500mm f6.9 zoom - Russian 1000mm f10.5 mirror lens and a Manfrotto 55 tripod with a 329 head. I can tell you, that lot took some lugging up to the top floor, fortunately we new what to expect as Karen had given us a walk around the building the previous week. Once aloft, both David and I marvelled at the view, and whilst there was a breeze, it in no way bothered us, although we were concerned about the lenses, especially the long ones moving in that breeze, but we carried on regardless, both of us realizing that we had to take enough shots, hoping we'd manage to achieve a good level of sharpness. This proved more difficult with the Russian mirror lens, with an f10.5 aperture, finding ourselves struggling for focus in the shadows, in fact, the shadows made it impossible sometimes, and that was the reason we returned the next day, the weather being more overcast but even light wise, and not as on the 17th, very sunny with increased shadow. Anyway we got the job done, and whilst there are some good views, I do feel that some of the more interesting shots will have been taken with the longer lenses, for why, well one can view a building from ground level and that's ok and good, but when you stick a "Long Tom" (long lens), you can see things atop of the buildings that just can't be seen at street level, such as dates on the stonework, damage etc. And it's this that shows up in these pictures. I shall be uploading more images to the Provident Sunbridge Rd Views gallery throughout the first week of 2012, so keep looking! A big thanks to David in helping to see this project through, and hopefully we'll get a chance to take pictures on top of the new PFG Head Office on Thornton Rd. Click the links to view and keep returning as I'll be loading more images!
